# The National Commissioner of Cuban Baseball Ernesto Reynoso Died of Covid-19

**Date:** 04/28/2021

With deep sorrow, the management of the National Institute of Sports of Cuba informs about the death this Tuesday of Ernesto Reynoso Piñeiro, who served as National Baseball Commissioner since September 10, 2019.

Complications derived from COVID-19 caused his regrettable death, despite the efforts made by the medical team at the Military Hospital Doctor Luis Díaz Soto, in La Habana.

During the period in which he was at the head of baseball, our national sport, Reynoso stood out for his effort, dedication, drive and transparency in advancing a mission that we already know has great social and cultural significance for the nation.

Implementing compliance with the new strategy for the development of Cuban baseball; expanding and perfecting the process of hiring abroad; making communication with the press more fluid; supporting the declaration of baseball as cultural heritage of the nation and carrying out the 60 National Series stand out among his undoubted contributions during almost 20 months of work.
