**Date:** 07/05/2021

The musician, promoter and Cuban researcher Malcoms Junco Duffay, better known as Malcom Justicia and one of the pioneers of Cuban rap on the island, died at the age of 45 from a heart attack.

"Pioneer of Cuban rap, promoter, researcher, Mc Malcoms Junco Duffay (Malcom Justicia) died last Wednesday from a heart attack after facing difficult situations in his family environment," wrote cultural journalist Michel Hernández on his Facebook profile.

"Malcom, about 45 years old, developed one of the most outstanding careers within the Cuban hip hop and underground movement. He produced the iconic album 'Sentimientos desafinados' and recorded one of the first phonograms with songs by Cuban female rappers. Malcom was an artist who made rap, and the production and promotion of Mcs one of the great destinations of his life," he added.

"His work was not limited to festival stages or independent recording studios. He also researched the evolution of rap in Cuba and published volumes that contributed significantly to shedding light on a cultural scene that had remained practically anonymous. Cuban rappers today have united in grief over the loss of one of their brothers in cause, an artist who gave himself to rap and assumed its philosophy as a way of life," Hernández concluded in his heartfelt tribute to the deceased artist.

Another colleague of his profession, the one called "Chico Pro" also left his emotional words to Malcom in a tone of farewell: "The light that emanated from this guy was impossible not to receive and not feel comfortable. I personally cry and at the same time I'm glad not to leave this world one day without having known him and having done my first solo work together with this brother. For the Man of the Eternal Smile (as I always called him). Rest in Rap Master".
