# Cuban painter Ever Fonseca dies in Havana at 88 years old

Cuban painter Ever Fonseca died in Havana at 88 years old, according to reports released by OnCuba and an official statement shared by the Ministry of Culture. His ashes will be deposited in Colón Cemetery, in accordance with his wishes.


Born on February 20, 1938 in Ojo del Agua, in the current province of Granma, Fonseca was part of the first generation of the National School of Art and developed a career that positioned him among the most recognizable voices in Cuban visual arts. In 2012 he received the National Prize for Visual Arts, one of the main awards in the sector in the country.


Beyond his creative work, he maintained a long pedagogical career. He was a professor for decades and contributed to the training of numerous artists, while consolidating a body of work associated with nature, spirituality, and imageries deeply linked to Cuban identity.


His pieces were part of personal and collective exhibitions inside and outside Cuba, and became part of institutional and private collections in several countries. The news of his death has prompted new assessments of the scope of a trajectory that united creation, teaching, and expressive persistence.
