**Date:** 10/24/2021

Actor Juan Julio Alfonso, with a long career in television and radio in Cuba, died this Friday according to a statement released by the Artistic Agency of Performing Arts ACTUAR.

The statement, which does not specify the cause of death, recalled that he had an excellent career in which he participated in radio novels, adventure stories and police dramas.

"Alfonso participated in memorable television programs, among which humorous, dramatized and socially-oriented programs stood out. His participation in the customs program 'Si no fuera por Mamá,' alongside Martha del Río, together with other accomplished artists, still endures in popular memory," the ACTUAR statement recalls.

On radio he presented several characters, but he remains in the affective memory of Cubans for his role in the popular program "Alegrías de sobremesa."

"The program Alegrías de Sobremesa by writer Alberto Luberta in the characters of Lisandrito, Tio Neno, Jujulito, Porfirio Regalado, Narciso and many others, won the taste and preference of listeners, in the company of a first-rate artistic cast. Similarly, he also performed with great public acceptance at the dramatized production company Radio Arte," the statement adds.

During his career, in which he also provided voices for Elpidio Valdés cartoons, he was recognized with several awards and professional distinctions including the Radio Microphone, Artist of Merit from the ICRT, the 85th Anniversary Seal of Cuban Radio and the ACTUAR Prize for Lifetime Achievement.
