**Date:** 08/17/2021

In the early morning of this August 16th, an icon of Santiago and Cuban cuisine passed away at 59 years of age: Jorge Bringas, an international chef and professor to several generations of cooks," said on Facebook Cuscó Tarradel, correspondent for the National Television News in Santiago.

According to Tarradel, although the trigger for Bringas' death was a heart attack, the causes that provoked the infarction are still being studied, since the chef had recently been recovering from coronavirus.

"He died at Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital, victim of a heart attack (which is being investigated), shortly after 1:00 am this Monday".

Jorge Bringas was a reference point for Cuban culinary culture. This was acknowledged by the vice president of the Culinary Association of Santiago de Cuba, Miguel Bauza Soto, when he informed his guild about the chef's death.

"The big guy, the master, the entrepreneur, the example. Speechless. I can't believe it. Today Cuba's culinary guild is in mourning. A great one has gone," expressed his colleague about Bringas.

Furthermore, fellow international chef Miguel Bauza stated that the deceased enjoyed good health and energy, which makes it more difficult for family, colleagues and friends to accept the news.
