# Spectacular fielding by Víctor Víctor Mesa

**Date:** 07/26/2021

The eldest son of Cuban baseball player Víctor Mesa has not yet managed to justify the bonus for which he signed as a professional with the Miami Marlins, but something he has made clear from day one is that while batting has been lacking, his defense is second to none.

That is why we share here a catch he made in early July, which in addition to being spectacular prevented a run for his team and gave him the checkmate for the inning.

It happened in the sixth inning of the Biloxi Shuckers-Pensacola Blue Wahoos matchup, at the stadium of the latter, a Double-A team of the Marlins, on July 3rd.

With two outs and a runner on third base, designated hitter Alexander Palma hit a tremendous line drive that had every chance of becoming a sure hit and tying the game (at that point in the game the home team was winning 1-0).

But Víctor Víctor quickly erased the bad intentions of the Shuckers, diving into the grass of center field, right after getting his hands on the ball and ending the inning.

The game ended in victory for the Blue Wahoos (6 to 3) and Mesa's catch, who also recorded a hit in the game, was a vital part of the victory.

Unfortunately the young Cuban prospect was sent down to a lower category 10 days later, when Miami decided that his poor .093 average, the result of just 7 hits in 75 at-bats in 21 games played, meant the Cuban outfielder did not meet what is expected of Víctor Víctor to be in Double-A.
