# Enrique Larrea Masvidal one of the most prominent Cuban urologists of all time

On December 25, Professor Dr. Enrique Larrea Masvidal, one of the most outstanding Cuban urologists of all time, passed away. An example of a professional, dedicated to patient care, teaching, research, and the development of the specialty in our country.

He was born in Havana on October 23, 1933. From the age of 16, he was involved with surgical techniques and laboratory work. After his graduation, he completed his social service in the city of Nuevitas. He participated in the struggle against bandits in the Escambray, was a founder of the state security organs and the urology services of the MININT.

He was also subdirector of scholarships at the ICBP "Victoria de Girón", director of the National Teaching Hospital "Enrique Cabrera", founder of the urology service at the Pediatric Hospital "William Soler", which he directed for almost 30 years, and founder of the lithotripsy and endourology service at the Hospital "Hermanos Ameijeiras".

Dr. Larrea was chief of the National Urology Group from its creation until 2014, mentor to several generations of Cuban urologists, esteemed and respected for his profound knowledge and dedication to his work.

He participated in multiple international scientific events in which he presented and defended the achievements of Cuban urology.
