Cuban singer and songwriter Ellys León, who recently flooded the streets of Madrid with images of her new single "Tú y yo", has said in an interview that "it's the first time" she has had "a team like this".

Until now, she had "done things on my own. I made small investments and whatever I earned I invested in making a song and a little video. This has been a before and after", she adds. "Tú y yo", whose video has over two million views on YouTube and was filmed between Paris and Dubai, is León's first song with a record label betting everything on her.

"When you release a song, you hope people like it, but this one has pleasantly surprised me", says León. The artist has lived for more than ten years in Italy and describes her music as "a mix" of Latin, urban, ballad and electronic, although she hints that, from now on, her music will focus more on Latin.

The owner of the face that flooded Madrid's metro and Gran Vía for weeks was born in Granma and left Cuba for Russia for work. "I spent some time there traveling with an artistic company. Then I came to Spain and was here for five years studying Dramatic Arts in Madrid. I studied in winter and spent summers working in Ibiza. I started singing electronic music. Working in Ibiza, my first contract came through for Italy with the Italian International Artistic Company, which was initially for three months. I've already been in Italy for more than ten years, a country that values artists greatly".

Ellys León says she would like to work with Marc Anthony, "he's the man of my life, musically speaking, of course", she says with a laugh. She would also like to collaborate with Leoni Torres and Descemer Bueno.

For the artist, the most difficult aspect of the profession is the instability and loneliness. "You spend many nights in hotels and travel where you're alone. From the outside everything looks great, but many times you don't have someone to share everything that's happening to you with".

Besides music, León says she enjoys acting. "I had more opportunities to dedicate myself to music than to dramatic arts, but it's something I would like to do. Participate in a series, a movie or a soap opera. I would like to play a good character, although playing the bad one wouldn't be bad for me; I have a lot of character, like all Cuban women".

About her relationship with Cuba, León says she goes almost every year since her mother still lives there. "I was there three years ago opening the carnival. Going to sing in front of your classmates, your neighbors, the people who know you, is a very big emotion", she says.
