# Cuban actor Rubén Cortada reappears at Málaga Festival

**Date:** 03/25/2022

In 2014, many were captivated by what became known as "the Cuban from El Príncipe". This phrase referred to actor Rubén Cortada, born in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, and star at that time of the successful Spanish series El Príncipe.

Now we update some of the news in his life, because, after starring in the Iberian series Ella es tu padre, broadcast in 2017 by Telecinco, the actor remained out of sight for more than three years.

The character he played in this audiovisual, Tommy, was the last we saw of him, until he revealed what happened in Cuba during several of the most recent years, in what many considered a spiritual retreat, but he later declared had not been an easy period.

"I stopped working, because I went to Cuba for some personal reasons and things kept getting more complicated. It got out of my hands and I couldn't leave the country until almost three years had passed. It was a complicated situation. But I've returned with a lot of strength. Everything is well compartmentalized in my head. There were things I managed poorly…", he told MadMen Magazine.

However, that is now behind him. For some time it has been known that he will make a major comeback: he will work in a film by director and screenwriter Alex de la Iglesia, titled El cuarto pasajero. "Another one of his crazy ideas, another wonderful wild swing from Álex", the actor has declared. The director of Balada triste de trompeta, also took charge of the script here (co-written with Jorge Guerricaechevarría) and served as producer.

In this comedy, besides Cortada, there will be others such as Blanca Suárez, Alberto San Juan and Ernesto Alterio.

The film is scheduled for release at the end of this year and, according to FilmAffinity, the following would be its synopsis: "Julián (Alberto San Juan), a divorced 50-year-old with financial problems, resorts to an app to share his car with strangers and, in particular, with someone who is less of a stranger: Lorena (Blanca Suárez), a young woman who frequently travels to Madrid. For months she has had a permanent seat in his car and lately also in his heart. Julián wants to use the trip to open up to her, but a mistake in choosing the rest of the passengers (Ernesto Alterio and Rubén Cortada) includes a disturbing passenger, who will cause a radical change in the course of events".

The character that the Caribbean actor will play is Sergio, one of the passengers in the car that makes the Bilbao-Madrid route. The film is in post-production. Its filming began in 2021 and took place in different locations in Madrid, the Basque Country and La Rioja.

This week, Cortada returned to the prestigious Málaga Film Festival, in which he had participated some years ago with the film "El signo de Caronte", which he starred in. "I was there once and don't remember very well what happened. Just that Málaga is a lot of fun", he told the Spanish press.
