# Dariel de León, young Cuban scientist on Iberoamerican Award committee

**Date:** 06/01/2021

The young Cuban scientist Dariel de León García was selected as a Practical Evaluator for the 2021 edition to award the Ibero-American Quality Prize, it has been reported.

To choose the Model of Excellence, the Ibero-American Foundation for Quality Management (Fundibeq) incorporated De León, an engineer in nuclear and energy technologies and executive of the Research Projects and Engineering Company (EIPI), from the Cuban province of Matanzas.

'I consider the selection as a sign of confidence in Cuban professionals, so I have the commitment to do well on a personal basis and also on behalf of my country,' highlighted the specialist with only a decade of experience in the labor field.

'I feel proud and honored to have been chosen by Fundibeq and it is a high responsibility because it requires a high ethical commitment, much study and professionalism in the decisions of an evaluation committee,' he stressed.

De León considered that this academic exercise will provide him with valuable tools, as he is immersed in the doctoral program in industrial engineering at the University of Matanzas.

It gives the opportunity, he expressed, to learn about experiences and organizations outside the Cuban sphere, which can be about companies from private public administration or those under state control.

'Furthermore this responsibility comes with a peculiarity, the current moments we are living through due to Covid-19, which imposes reviews with a high remote component, something with which the Foundation has been learning since the 2020 edition,' he added.

He expressed that this online modality imposes a challenge in communication, meanwhile, in the near future the stage of reviewing the files submitted to Fundibeq will begin, a project attached to the Summit of Heads of State and Government of Ibero-America.
