# Cuban Yarisley Silva closes third at Rouen meet

**Date:** 03/06/2022

Third place for Yarisley Silva at the Rouen meet was the most recent result for Cuban athletics this Saturday during the French event dedicated solely to pole vault, in which American Christopher Nilsen and Slovenian Tina Sutej dominated the headlines.

The Caribbean athlete competed for the fifth time in the current winter season and secured a podium spot thanks to the 4.61 meters registered, a mark that remains in the range of her most recent results. Her best performance this year is the 4.65 meters surpassed in Val-de-Reuil, on February 14th, when she also finished in third place.

Yarisley, Olympic silver medalist from London 2012 and world champion in Beijing 2015, now aspires to participate in the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade 2022 –from March 18th to 20th–, but does not yet have a secure quota and will have to wait for updates to the rankings that will be published this Monday.

The three-time Pan American champion already dominated an indoor meet in Sopot 2014 and wants to compete again against the best in the discipline.

The French competition was won by Slovenian Sutej with a national record of 4.80 meters, a performance that confirms her good form.

Behind her was the European indoor champion, Swiss Angélica Moser, with a jump of 4.66 meters.

Among men, Nilsen, Olympic silver medalist from Tokyo 2020, "stole" all the spotlight by clearing 6.05 meters, a height that improves the American record indoors and places him fifth in the all-time ranking in those settings.

Only the Swedish and current world record holder Armand Duplantis, French Renaud Lavillenie, Ukrainian Sergey Bubka and Australian Steve Hooker have jumped higher in indoor competitions.

Followers of this sport are already making predictions about the clash between Duplantis and Nilsen at the Belgrade meet, although the season has been prolific in terms of marks and four other men already show over 5.91 meters.

That mark was reached this Saturday to occupy the other podium spots by Filipino Ernest Obiena (indoor national record) and Brazilian and Rio 2016 champion Thiago Braz, who fell just two centimeters short of the South American record, which is in his possession.

This Monday the qualification rankings for all events in Belgrade 2022 will be updated and Cuba will be able to confirm the increase in its number of secured competitors, which is currently five athletes.

Meeting the minimum marks and having secure spots are sprinter Roxana Gómez (400 meters), long jumper Maikel Massó and triple jumpers Leyanis Pérez, Liadagmis Povea and Lázaro Martínez.
