# Cuban Volleyball Player Daniel Martínez Named Best Opposite and Top Scorer at Pan American Cup

**Date:** 08/26/2026

Cuban volleyball player Daniel Martínez Campos was named Best Opposite and Top Scorer of the Pan American Cup men's tournament, held in Morelos, Mexico, in mid-August 2026, individual honors that stood out even as Cuba's national team finished the competition in sixth place without a medal.

Martínez, 20 years old and a native of Yumurí, in the province of Matanzas, stands 2.17 meters tall and plays the opposite hitter position. He led Cuba's offense throughout the tournament, scoring more than 20 points in several matches, including 27 against the Dominican Republic and 26 against Guatemala. He is the son of Mabel Campos, a former member of Cuba's national women's volleyball team who played as a central blocker.

The Pan American Cup recognition adds to a strong year for the young hitter, who was also part of the Cuban team that won bronze at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo and made his debut with Cuba's rookie squad at the Volleyball Nations League in Linyi, China. Coaches and specialists following Cuban volleyball have pointed to Martínez's attacking power and consistency as signs of a promising future for the island's men's national team.
