**Date:** 08/03/2026

Cuban boxer Yusnier Sorsano, 23, from Camagüey, opened his run at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games with a win over Colombia's Alexander Rangel in the 70-kilogram division this Sunday.

The bout, held at Combat Pavilion 2 of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in Santo Domingo, was decided by split decision in the Cuban's favor, with the judges' scorecards reading 3-2.

Sorsano started behind on the cards: four of the five judges gave the opening round to his opponent. The Cuban boxer responded in the next two rounds with a more aggressive approach, built on steady straight punches to Rangel's chin and effective defensive footwork, which earned him the second and third rounds on three of the five scorecards.

The win gave Cuban boxing a positive start at the Central American Games, which run from July 24 to August 8, 2026, in the Dominican capital.
