# Concert by Niurka González and Marcos Madrigal at Cubadisco tomorrow Wednesday, May 18

**Date:** 05/17/2022

Pianist Marcos Madrigal and flutist Niurka González will offer a unique recital on May 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Basílica Menor del Convento de San Francisco de Asís. This concert is part of the Cubadisco 2022 Fair programming in which the CD Prokofiev. Vol 1 by Marcos Madrigal (Pierre-Yves Lascar Alcalina) is nominated in the Solo Concertante category.

In the first part of the program they will perform the Sonata for flute and piano op. 94 by Sergei Prokofiev, composed in 1943 and later transcribed by the author himself for violin. This sonata is a work of great contrasts that brilliantly combines lyricism and sweetness with drama and strength.

The second part will be made up of Cuban works.

Canción breve by Beatriz Corona will premiere, dedicated especially to Marcos and Niurka, followed by Dos tiempos for flute, written in 1987, also by Beatriz.

A selection of 11 of the XXI Bienaventuranzas by José María Vitier is included in the program. These pieces emerged during the height of Covid isolation, some of them originating in prayers, small pieces that José María would improvise at the piano. The work consists of XXI short, intimate pieces that explore different moods always from a Cuban perspective.

To close, spirituality and tradition with Habanera Melancólica and Danzón by Aldo López Gavilán.
