After more than 40 years dedicated to baseball, professor Carlos Martí Santos, the manager with the most games won in the history of Cuban baseball, confirmed his retirement as director of the Los Alazanes team, Granma, although he will not distance himself from the exciting sport of balls and strikes.

"It is a personal situation and a chance to take a break, a well-deserved rest," Martí expressed in the press room of the Bayamo stadium Mártires de Barbados, where the relevant trajectory of this valuable strategist was highlighted, who played 33 national series with Granma, including 17 consecutive versions, and another with the Serranos team.

In his extensive work record, it also stands out that he was the only one in the history of our classics with 49 managerial stints, and more than 3,000 games managed, in addition to accumulating 1,233 victories with Granma teams, participating in 12 selectivas, two superligas and in the I Elite League of Cuban Baseball, an event in which he was crowned champion, at the helm of the Agricultores team.

"Carlos Martí leaves an important legacy for baseball in the province, which includes his results in team management."

At the press conference, Leonardo Soto Agüero was also announced as the new manager of the Granma team, ahead of the 62nd National Baseball Series (SNB).

Juan Orozco Amaya, provincial baseball commissioner, explained that Leonardo's selection—who has served in recent years as bench coach for Los Alazanes, alongside Carlos Martí—responds to a work strategy of the technical commission in the territory, "and furthermore, we felt it was not advisable to make notable changes in the direction of the team," he added.

"I am certain, without a doubt, that this will be the biggest challenge of my professional career; first because I have to replace one of the best baseball managers this country has ever produced, and second because I will be at the helm of the national champion team. These two things weigh heavily; but the objective is to preserve the results we have achieved," Soto Agüero stated.
