# Bis Music and Germán Velazco Pay Tribute to José Luis Cortés

**Date:** 03/28/2022

"Ataca Chicho" is the title of the new album produced by Bis Music and musician Germán Velazco, as a tribute to José Luis Cortés, better known as El Tosco.

In an exclusive interview with ACN, Velazco commented on the importance this recording will have for young generations who wish to study the musical work of the renowned flutist and composer.

During recent years, Popular Music Chairs have begun to become known. José Luis Cortés will at some point be studied and we will need albums like these. Cuba's musical avant-garde is popular dance music and we have to fight day by day to ensure that continues to be the case, explained the interviewee.

According to his account, this project began to take shape approximately nine months ago, the original idea came from Francisco Cruz Terry (Paquito), who invited him to carry out the musical production.

The album is a kind of celebration for his 70th birthday and 53 years of artistic career.

We sat down and had a meeting to find out who would be the performers that would be part of the piece.

Obviously, we counted on El Tosco's direct input, because no one better than him knows which musicians to take into account, Velazco argues.

Ten arrangers for a total of 10 songs will make this album summarize in the best way possible the different stages of José Luis Cortés' career, starting from when he joined Irakere.

Tony Rodríguez wrote the arrangements for "La Bruja" for Alexander Abreu; Arturo Cruz for Paulito FG; Roniel Alfonso for Will Campa; Joaquín Betancourt arranged "Santa Palabra" for Robertón, and I arranged "La fiera" for Mandy Cantero, he recounted.

At the end of April the musical production should be released. It is our interest to take it to all media outlets so the public can start dancing to it as soon as possible. El Tosco deserves it, concluded Velazco.
