# María Luisa Clark

Born in the city of Holguín. He completed his vocal training with Zoila Gálvez and Raúl Camayd. "He began singing in the choir of the Church of San Isidoro in the mid-1960s, under the direction of Riancho Fellé.

He joined the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater in 1969, debuting shortly after as the protagonist of the Spanish zarzuela La tabernera del puerto, by P. Sorozábal". He stars with the company in El conde de Luxemburgo, La viuda alegre, Cecilia Valdés, María la O, Amalia Batista (premiere of the definitive version, 1979), Los gavilanes, La Habana que vuelve, La leyenda del beso, La del manojo de rosas, La del soto del parral.

He performs in many of these roles during the Holguín Lyric Theater's performances at the capital's theater festivals, where he also offers a memorable recital on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of his debut (1989).

"His wide vocal range, beautiful timbre, and charisma soon made him one of the most admired of the genre in Cuba. [… He has performed] on stages in Spain, Colombia, Peru, and Korea […]".

His daughter Ileana Pavón is one of the revelations of the genre in recent years and has received the Distinction for National Culture and other recognitions.

María Luisa obtained first prize at the International Spring Festival of Pyong Yang, held in 1991. He was awarded the Distinction For National Culture
