# Francisco López Sacha

Cuban narrator, essayist and professor. He was born in Manzanillo, Granma, in 1950.

He holds a degree in Literature and is a specialist in Theatrology. He has been president of the Association of Writers of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), subdirector of the Onelio Jorge Cardoso Literary Training Workshop and director of the magazine Letras Cubanas.

In 1980 he was nominated for the National Literature Prize. He is founding professor of the Literary Training Workshop "Onelio Jorge Cardoso" and of the television program "Universidad Para Todos". In 1993 he obtained the Razón de Ser Prize awarded by the Alejo Carpentier Foundation, and the La Gaceta de Cuba Prize with the story Dorado mundo.

For thirteen years he was professor of Theatrical Thought at the Higher Institute of Art in Havana. He holds a degree in Literature and is a specialist in Theatrology. He studied Literature at the University of Oriente in Santiago de Cuba, where he published film criticism and literary criticism. From 1977 onwards he began to write.

Professor of the Regular Program and Postgraduate Program of the International School of Film and TV of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV).

He has given lectures and conferences at numerous institutes and universities around the world, among which stand out: International Institute of Theatre (ITT) in Prague, at Latinamerican Youth Center in Washington DC, Casa de las Américas in Madrid, New York and Havana, University of Poitiers, France; Teatro Intimo in Dublin, University of Oxford; Central University of Venezuela, UNAM in Mexico; Veritas, University of San José Costa Rica, among other international institutions".

Some of his stories and essays have been translated into German, Italian, Portuguese, English and Russian. He was director of the Magazine Letras Cubanas. He is president of the Association of Writers of UNEAC.

In 1980 he was nominated for the National Literature Prize. He is founding professor of the Literary Training Workshop "Onelio Jorge Cardoso" and of the television program "Universidad Para Todos". He recently obtained the prize from the Chile Record Fair in the International Story Contest "Juan Rulfo".

In 1994 he also published Fábula de ángeles, an anthology of new Cuban narrators, and in 1996 La Isla Contada, contemporary Cuban stories, which had two editions in Spain, one in Portugal, another in Brazil, and another in Italy. In 1997 he published in Mexico his personal anthology Figuras en el lienzo, in the Rayuela Internacional collection of UNAM.

Other novels of his are Voy a escribir la eternidad and El más suave de todos los veranos. He is author of the essay books La nueva cuentística cubana (1994) and Pastel flameante (2006)

Awards and Distinctions
    Finalist in the Casa de las Américas Prize in 1984 with Análisis de la ternura.
    General San Martín Prize from the Ateneo of Buenos Aires in 1984 for the story Si hubiera paz en el mundo.
    Caimán Barbudo 1986 Awards, Abril 1987 and La Rosa Blanca 1988 with Descubrimiento del azul.
