# Ballet Laura Alonso Brings "Swan Lake" to Panama and Costa Rica for the First Time

Ballet Laura Alonso, the Cuban dance company founded and directed by ballet teacher Laura Alonso, will present its production of "Swan Lake" in Panama and Costa Rica for the first time, as part of a Central American tour scheduled for the first week of August 2026.


The company will perform on August 2 at Teatro Balboa in Panama City in a single show, before moving on to Costa Rica, where it will offer several performances between August 5 and 8 at the Teatro Auditorio Nacional in San José.


The production follows choreography by Laura Alonso, based on the reinterpretation her mother, prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, made of the classical Petipa-Ivanov version. The lead roles of Odette/Odile will be shared across performances by dancers Lilia Laura Martínez, Lianet Sotolongo and Lauren Fuentes, while Prince Siegfried will be danced by Abraham Quiñones, Marlon Hernández and Yerandy Tápanes. Dancer Pablo González will take on the role of the sorcerer Von Rothbart.


Costume design is credited to Gerner Garrido, Luis Enrique Piñero, Dania Díaz and Abelardo Castini, with scenography by Omar Figueredo.


Laura Alonso, born in New York on March 14, 1938, is the daughter of Alicia Alonso and ballet master Fernando Alonso, founders of Cuban ballet technique and pedagogy. She was a principal soloist with the Ballet Nacional de Cuba for 25 years before founding her own company in 1995, which now operates under the Centro de Promoción de la Danza de Cuba (ProDanza), dedicated to preserving and promoting the classical ballet repertoire.
