# Aylín Mujica to place her son’s ashes at Neptune Memorial Reef in Miami

Cuban actress Aylín Mujica said in September 2026 that the ashes of her son Mauro Menéndez, the DJ known as Maahez, will be placed at Neptune Memorial Reef — the underwater cemetery off Miami’s coast — according to El Universal, Infobae and La Opinión. Menéndez died July 16 in Barbados at age 31; the autopsy attributed the death to multiple organ failure stemming from pneumonia.

Mujica explained that Mauro loved the sea and that U.S. rules restrict scattering ashes freely, so the family chose this legal option: cremated remains are mixed into sculptural pieces on the artificial reef, about 12 meters deep near Key Biscayne. She said cremation took place around the two-month mark after his death and that paperwork had delayed receiving the ashes.

Based in Mexico and promoting the stage play Las intocables, Mujica said she keeps going for her other two children and that the memorial will include symbols tied to Mauro’s interests, such as lions and other figures that represented him.
