# Andy García will star in a new version of 'Father of the Bride'... but with Cuban flavor

**Date:** 03/21/2021

The misadventures of a Cuban-American family during the preparations for their daughter's wedding and the father's resistance to the girl marrying the love of her life spice up the plot of Father of the Bride, a remake of the famous comedy that has been brought to the screen on two occasions and that Warner Bros. is now preparing.

The film will have Andy García among its stars, who will also assume production duties.

"I feel very excited to join a film that has brought so much joy for so many years and to represent my Cuban culture and heritage in this story," the Cuban actor expressed through a statement to the media released Friday by The Hollywood Reporter.

Although the names of the rest of the cast have not yet been revealed, it is known that the film will be directed by Mexican filmmaker Gaz Alazraki, known for the successful film Nosotros los nobles (2013) and the series Club de Cuervos (2015-2019).

The screenplay will be written by Matt López, with credits in Bedtime Stories (2008) and The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010).

The original Father of the Bride film was made in 1950 under the direction of Vincent Minelli and starred Spencer Tracy, Elizabeth Taylor, and Joan Bennett.

That year it was nominated for the Oscar in the categories of Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay.

The success of the 1991 version, with Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Martin Short, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, led its director, Charles Shyer, to conceive the sequel Father of the Bride Part II (1995), which describes the impact the family received upon learning of their daughter's pregnancy and the mother's.
