# Andy García Palacios, freed on ICE bond, returns to Miami stages

Cuban pianist Andy García Palacios, based in Miami, was released on bond on September 11, 2026, after nearly a month in ICE custody at California’s Adelanto Processing Center, according to Diario Las Américas and América TeVé. Four days later he returned to Miami stages with a performance at Neme Gastrobar, the Miami New Times reported.

García Palacios, 30, was detained August 15 at Los Angeles International Airport while traveling for artistic work. ICE said his authorized stay expired May 27, 2024; his attorney Avelino González said the musician entered legally and has a pending immigration case. Bond allows him to wait outside detention while the case continues: “The process is not over yet… but today I can be thankful that I am home with my family,” he said on Instagram.

The case mobilized South Florida’s Cuban music community. His brother Yandy García organized a GoFundMe that raised nearly $50,000, and artists including Chucho Valdés and Diana Fuentes publicly called for his release. Days after García Palacios’s arrest, ICE also detained Cuban Latin Grammy-winning percussionist Degnis Bofill at Miami International Airport; Bofill was released on bond September 3. Both men still face open immigration proceedings.
