# Alejandro Claro wins gold at Silk Road boxing tournament in China

Cuban boxer Alejandro Claro Fiz claimed the 55-kilogram title at the international Silk Road boxing tournament in Xinjiang, China, with a unanimous 5-0 decision over Azerbaijan's Tura Sariyev in the final on Monday, September 28, 2026, according to the Cuban News Agency (ACN) and Radio Progreso, citing JIT.

Claro, a two-time world bronze medalist and a 2024 Paris Olympian, notched his fourth win of the meet. Cuban head coach Eulices Pouyout told JIT the performance was "a technical dissertation" at an event that drew fighters from more than twenty countries.

Cuba finished with three medals: Claro's gold, silver for Jorge Cuéllar (80 kg), who lost to China's Ederesi in a decision the coaching staff disputed, and bronze for Saidel Horta (60 kg), who missed his semifinal after a flu-like illness following three earlier wins.

The tournament is part of Cuba's buildup to the Pan American qualifier set for October 17–25 in Mexico, which awards berths to the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. Pouyout said the squad will continue sparring in China before that event.
