# Cuban Sculptor Alberto Lescay Opens 'Epifanías' Photography Exhibition in Las Tunas

Cuban sculptor Alberto Lescay Merencio opened "Epifanías," a new photographic exhibition documenting more than five decades of his monumental public sculpture, on August 26 at the La Jungla gallery of the Huellas Cultural Center in Las Tunas, eastern Cuba.

The exhibition brings together images of Lescay's best-known large-scale works, including the equestrian monument to independence hero Antonio Maceo in Santiago de Cuba and the Monument to the Maroon in the town of El Cobre, alongside smaller bronze pieces such as "Barca," "Toma de mí" and "Sube cae." Lescay, born in Santiago de Cuba in 1950, received Cuba's National Prize for Plastic Arts in 2021 and is the founder of the Caguayo Foundation for Monumental and Applied Arts.

The opening also included the presentation of "Las luces de Alberto Lescay," a book by researcher Marina Lourdes Jacobo García that draws on two decades of study of the artist's training and career, published by Editorial Sanlope.

Addressing local artists at the opening, Lescay thanked sculptors from Las Tunas province for their work through a difficult period for the arts on the island, calling the exhibition a significant moment for the plastic arts scene in eastern Cuba.
