**Date:** 01/29/2023

The International Association of Sports Press-America, AIPS América, decided to recognize with the Abelardo Raidi Award a reference program of sports television and twelve masters of continental sports journalism, among whom is the prestigious journalist from the newspaper Granma Alfonso Nacianceno García.

In recognition of his professional and union trajectory in service of sports and journalism, built during decades of hard work —as stated in the AIPS América press release— appearing on the list alongside the Cuban reporter are professionals from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Nacianceno García has a notable professional history at the newspaper Granma, where he began at a very young age. His experience of more than ten years heading the Sports Department and in other management positions he has held during the more than 45 years he has been at the organization, support his leadership.

Since 2011, the Abelardo Raidi Award has been given to journalists, independent or private journalistic organizations, journalistic companies in print, radio, television or digital media, whose trajectory is prolonged and of service to the sports of their country, the press release indicates.

The Award is given to journalists who have continuous practice of more than 20 years in sports journalism in the country, in which they have demonstrated an ethical condition that honors the person and national journalism itself.

Abelardo Raidi, whom this Award honors with his name, was a Venezuelan journalist who presided over AIPS in its early founding years.
