Invited to the Santiago a Mil International Festival of Performing Arts, the Cuban company Acosta Danza made a successful debut this week at various venues in the Chilean capital under the general direction of dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta.

The audience that filled the Teatro Municipal de Las Condes, in Santiago de Chile, gave a standing ovation to the Cuban company, which presented a program with the pieces Alrededor no hay nada and Imponderable, by Goyo Montero; Fauno and Mermaid, by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Diez, by Jorge Crecis.

In addition to performances at that venue throughout the last weekend, on Saturday afternoon Carlos Acosta, instructors and dancers from the company held an encounter with the public, dancers and dance instructors from Chile.

The presence of the renowned Cuban and his company in the capital of the South American country has been treated as an event in the world of Santiago dance.

Many ballet enthusiasts in Chile have shown their admiration for Acosta, and remember his performance with the ballet of the Teatro Municipal, in the early 1990s.

On Tuesday, Acosta Danza performed at the Centro Cultural de San Joaquín, in the municipality of the same name, a function attended by Cuba's ambassador to Chile, Jorge Lamadrid, who held an encounter with the artists at the end of the performance.

For their part, the Municipality of San Joaquín offered a tribute to the Cuban artists and thanked them for their presence at the community's cultural center.

The activities program for Acosta Danza continues this Wednesday with a performance at the Teatro Municipal de La Pintana; on Friday there will be a presentation at the Teatro Municipal de Antofagasta, and at the Anfiteatro de Pudahuel on Saturday and Sunday.
